My Digital CV – Sam Woodall

Thank you for visiting my CV page. Here you will find a short overview of my previous work experience and some of my more personal explorations.

Previous Experience

  • Past

I started working during my last year of secondary school at a local gastropub. My roles included: Front of House Staff in which I primarily took orders and ran them through the till system, running food from the kitchen to customers and restocking certain drinks and snacks from the basement to the bar. My second role as Kitchen Porter required me to wash dishes and prepare certain basic foods. Both of these roles were in fast paced environments where each task had to be completed quickly and efficiently or else there could be backlogs in the entire working system.

After this, I decided I wanted to experience living and working in a different culture so, in a rather large step, I moved to South Korea to participate on a volunteering scheme. This scheme required me to have basic conversation with aspiring English learners, and provide assistance depending on their level. After 3 months I became very close with the owner and was offered a permanent position managing the scheme volunteers whilst also running some formal English classes on the side. After a year and a half I decided it was time to come back the UK and start working on my Bachelors degree.

  • Present

I am currently studying at SOAS, University of London on the Social Science, Arts and Humanities foundation program with aspirations to study Korean and Chinese Studies BA next year. I’m hoping to develop my academic and linguistic skills I have goals of bringing my Korean to a fluent level and acquire conversational Mandarin.

I am currently searching for a job position in which encompasses some of my interests, such as a Korean Restaurant or Online Tutoring.

  • Future Aims

In the future I would like to relocate permanently to South Korea teaching at local private schools in Seoul. I would love to be able to open my own casual teaching facility such as the one I previously worked at where Koreans can come and comfortably learn and practice without the stress of more formal schools. I would also be interested in spending some time in China to explore a different side to Asian culture.

Personal Interest and Hobbies

My biggest hobby is travel. I love going to new places around the world and experiencing different cultures. My favorite area of the world to travel in is Asia but anywhere new is always a really cool experience for me. The top 3 countries I’ve been to are South Korea, Hong Kong and Iceland, I would happily relocate to any of these places! Food is also an essential part of each trip. I’m really open to trying any kind of foods, some of the weirdest I’ve tried so far are: the Korean dish Sannakji; which is raw moving octopus, chicken and pigs feet, raw crab fermented in soy sauce and Hakarl; Icelandic fermented shark (tradition has it only people with true viking blood can eat it). All of them sound bad but were actually surprisingly tasty. I also love languages so before I travel I like to try and learn a bit so I can partake in some language exchanges whilst I’m there. Below you can see some pictures from my travels, including both Asia and Europe

In my free time, I enjoy boxing, playing guitar and e-Sports.
